About
Climate Safety
Climate change is taking place ahead of schedule. The Arctic is melting far faster than the most pessimistic assumptions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and there are worrying signs that natural carbon sinks are starting to fail. A flurry of papers since the IPCC’s last Assessment Report underline that the science is running to keep up with reality — and politics is still running to keep up with the science.
Policymakers consistently fail to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in climate science. Climate sceptics push this uncertainty to question the severity of the climate problem; but uncertainty cuts both ways. Governments are playing a dangerous game with our climate system, and have failed to take a responsible approach to the risks incurred in meddling with such a complex system.
Climate Safety began as a report (download), and now continues as a blog. It aims to synthesise and communicate the latest climate science, to analyse and critique the UK’s existing climate targets and promote climate-safe policy with risk management at its core.
